Navy Command Headquarters press release

Time: 20:05pm, August 5th, 2018

Most of the content in the media coverage of “contact between local submarine company and foreign company turns explicit due to approval from the US” is purely conjecture and far from the truth. The Navy Command Headquarters today (5th) wishes to elaborate with the following statements:

Ⅰ. Submarines are a critical battle force in the future defense warfare at the Taiwan Strait. Our nation has put much effort in acquiring them for more than a decade without results. Under the government’s “Homemade Submarine” policy, the military officially initiated the homemade submarine construction project, and the project is carried out as planned so far.

Ⅱ. With regard to the supplier of our homemade submarines components, the armed forces requires CSBC Corporation and NCSIST to deal directly with the original suppliers on matters related to specifications, capabilities, reasonable price, and technology transfers. None of these matters may be dealt with through agents or brokers.

Ⅲ. The project is well under way as planned by CSBC Corporation, and progress is on track. All information are commercial secrets and effect national security, thus cannot be clearly explained externally. Media conjectures and reports will affect the implementation of the project, and we wish to seek support from all citizens.
